Description

This object is a faint globular cluster located in the southern constellation of Sagittarius, almost 30,000 light years from earth. This cluster is far away and has an extremely dense core, such that the stars in the center of the core are not able to be resolved in this image. It contains about 75,000 stars. Both this object and its close neighbor, M69, lie close to the Milky Way galactic center, so they are both subject to strong tidal gravitational forces.
